What is Mirar?

Do you keep getting pop-ups and can't uninstall the Mirar toolbar through "Add or Remove Programs"? You are not alone!

Mirar, also known as Getmirar, is an advertising agent marketed as a search toolbar. The toolbar claims to help streamline Web searches by suggesting certain sites based on where the user goes in the browser and what the user types in the search field. In reality, Mirar specifically aims a Web search toward any one of its affiliate sites, some of which are known to host malicious content, such as rogue anti-Spyware applications.

Mirar also launches targeted ads. These are ads, usually in the form of popups, selected based on information that the toolbar has collected and sent to a server. Mirar is also known to come as an add-on program, bundled to larger programs. Once the larger application is installed, Mirar installs itself without user consent or knowledge.

Unfortunately, as soon as Mirar is installed, it copies numerous files in various system folders and adds several entries in the registry. This makes it very difficult to uninstall Mirar toolbar completely just by using the "Add or Remove Programs" utility. What you have now is a mess on your hands!
